EVENT RELEASE
LIBERAL National Federal Member for Fisher Peter Slipper has helped the International Rally of Queensland live up to its name, by sourcing flags for the event.
Mr Slipper arranged to have two flags sent from each of the Embassies in Canberra that represent the nine countries in the competition. The flags will be raised at Rally Headquarters in Marcoola and during trophy presentations.
“This international event ‘means the world’ to the Sunshine Coast and that’s why I’m more than happy to lend my support,” Mr Slipper says.
“The 83 competing cars will be accompanied by about 2000 drivers, co-drivers, team members, supporters, sponsors and media.
“Add to that spectator numbers and you’ve got a lot of money pouring into the region.”
The Rally will also give invaluable worldwide exposure to the Sunshine Coast, through television broadcasts to 155 countries.
This year’s competition will kick off tomorrow night, July 30, with the Coates Hire Rally Shootout at the Sunshine Coast Industrial Park, on Racecourse Road, Caloundra.
