EVENT ADVISORY
COMPETITORS in the International Rally of Queensland (IROQ) will be able to use non-homologated parts in their cars, subject to conditions, following a recent deicison of the world motorsport body, the Paris-based FIA.
The decision, designed to reduce costs and increase entries, applies to the FIA World Rally Championship and regional championships, including the FIA Asia Pacific Rally Championship, of which Queensland will be the fourth round of the 2010 series.
The alternative parts must be of similar design to the homologated part, no lighter and not provide a competitive advantage.
The FIA suggests bumpers, front air splitters, brake discs, clutch plates and similar components could be considered.
Alternate parts must be authorised by CAMS, which must in turn advise the FIA.
The step has been taken by the FIA in recognition of the costs of some homologated components that would need to be fitted to restore cars to FIA Group N or A specification, particularly when they would not otherwise be required in national competition classes.
This may allow some competitors to reconsider their entry into the international section of events such as IROQ. The ruling applies only to vehicles homologated by the FIA that are eligible for the events in question.
Competitors wishing to pursue this option should contact the CAMS Technical Department.
